Water & Sewer

Our system for billing for water usage and sewer is a “user pay” system and is billed quarterly.  A water meter deposit is required prior to the water service being turned on.  Quarterly water rates are $55.00 for the first 4,000 gallons used and $7.00 per thousand gallons thereafter, with an additional $25 infrastructure fee.  Residential sewer charge is $25.00. Commercial sewer charges are based on your water consumption: 0-15,000 gallons - $25.00; 15,001-50,000 gallons - $50.00; 50,001-100,000 gallons - $65.00 and 100,001 and more – $90.00.

Waste Disposal

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF GRENFELL
Our Transfer Station is operated under the Red Coat Waste Resource Authority. 

Residential garbage pickup is now Fridays & each home has a large Loraas garbage cart in which to place household garbage. These carts must be curbside by 7am each Friday.  There is no direct fee for this garbage service, it is included in property taxes

Monday - 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday & Friday - 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SUMMER: (April 2 - Sept. 30)
Monday- 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday & Friday - 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Accepted at the Transfer Station at no cost to you are:

• trees and clean lumber only
• compost material, weeds, leaves, grass clippings etc.
• renovation material - gyproc, drywall, wooden doors/window frames
• concrete (must be placed in the proper area)

Accepted for a fee (payable to the attendant) and must be placed in the metal transfer bins at the Transfer Station:

General household garbage:

• bagged garbage - $1.00/bag
• 1/2 ton truck full - $20.00
• 1 ton truck deck - $40.00
• 3 ton truck full - $120.00

Shingles (asphalt, tar etc.) - place shingles in bin beside ramp

• 1/2 ton truck full - $75.00
• 1 ton truck full - $150.00
• 3 ton truck full - $450.00

Accepted and placed beside the pit- Mattresses, couches, chairs, etc. - $20.00

Accepted for a fee: - wooden pallets - $2.00 each

Steel appliances $10.00 each (must be put on the steel pile free of Freon)

For disposal of: - Residential Buildings - $.50 per square foot
- Commercial Buildings - $.50 per square foot- Elevators & Annexes - $ 2,000.00

** NOT ACCEPTED - TIRES- as per the Scrap Tire Corporation Agreement

** NOT ACCEPTED - COMPUTERS, MONITORS, DESKTOP PRINTERS, T.V.'S - are under the SWEEP Program @ Sarcan

Recycling

Blue Bins for recycling are located on Pacific Street (next to Sarcan). These bins are for RECYCLING ONLY, they will locked except for the following hours; and during these hours they will be manned.
If you are not sure what can be recycled PLEASE ASK.
Thursdays 3pm - 6pm & Saturdays 10am - 1pm

Please place recyclables in the appropriate bins:

• Cardboard - corrugated only - FLATTENED
• Newsprint / flyers and anything that comes with the newspaper.
• Tin - food cans, washed and flattened. NO steel coat hangers.
• Mixed Paper - coloured paper, business forms, carbonless - treated paper, sticky notes, colour & window envelopes, file folders (brown and coloured), shredded paper, Sears Catalogues, magazines and Boxboard i.e. cereal boxes, paper towel & toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes folded flat with plastic removed.
• Plastics - please check for ID codes. Some typical uses are:
• #1 liquid detergent bottles, margarine containers
• #2 Shampoo bottles, coloured food & cleaning product bottles, marked yogurt containers
• #4 Milk jug caps and juice jug caps
• #5 Marked yogurt and cottage cheese containers
• #7 Plastic bags, water softener salt bags

*Not accepted as per regulations #3 (i.e. some clear beverage bottles, vacuum formed food containers or # 6 (some yogurt and cottage cheese containers, cups and bowls)

**Milk jugs & cartons and juice containers to SARCAN - PLEASE! **

(You are encouraged to recycle these at Sarcan - the busier Sarcan is the more days we can open.)

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE GARBAGE IN THE RECYCLE BINS.
We are asking you to please follow the rules and the end result will assist in ensuring our community is Environmentally Friendly.

Sarcan is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9-12 & 1-5 for your convenience for bottles, juice boxes and cans returns and refunds. Sarcan also accepts milk jugs and cartons, paint cans and electronic equipment such as computers. We encourage recycling!

The Eco-Centre is located on 740 Pacific Street to accept used oil and oil filters for recycling. Phone 697-2815 or 697-2797 for an appointment to drop off these recyclables.

Dogs

All dogs within the limits of the Town of Grenfell must be licensed. Licenses are available at the Town Office at a cost of $30.00 each. All dogs must either be on a leash or confined to your property at all times. Dogs running at large will be impounded.

Building Permits

For any and all construction on your lot you will be required to apply for a building permit. Please check at the Town Office for more details about your particular project.
