Grenfell Town Council Adopts Anti-Bullying Bylaw
Grenfell, Saskatchewan– after consultation with the Grenfell High Community School and the local RCMP, Grenfell Town Council decided at the last regular meeting held Thursday, September 19, 2013, Town Council adopted Bylaw No. 691-13 also known as the Anti-Bullying Bylaw.
Bullying is an unacceptable behaviour which cannot be ignored and must be stopped.
Some Facts about Bullying: Bullying causes serious harm Children do not grow out of bullying Bullying affects the majority of our children We are not doing enough to protect Canadian youth Reporting bullying is an effective way to stop the violence Fighting back make the bullying worse Bullying happens wherever children gather to live, learn or play Bullying can occur within the family or the family home Peers play a major role in bullying – by either escalating or stopping it Bullying is a human rights issue – one of safety and inclusion
“A Town Council may pass bylaws respecting the safety, health and welfare of people and the
protection of people and property and respecting people, activities and things in or near public
places” (an excerpt from The Municipalities Act). Grenfell Town Council wants to do its part in
the fight against bullying and harassment in our community by adopting and promoting the
Anti-Bullying Bylaw. Everyone has the power to end bullying.
